Our Impact

We’ve written a recipe for sustainability

Our passion to become the world’s greatest baker doesn’t stop at the quality of our food. It ripples through to our processes, our people, and our impact on the world around us. Sustainability isn’t a buzz word at FGF Brands, it’s built into our DNA.

With operations in Canada and the United States, we’re acutely aware of our responsibility to sustainable practices across our entire organization. That’s why we’ve developed three ambitious goals that are transforming our company into one of the cleanest and most forward-thinking bakeries in the world. Goal #1

Our Impact

FGF will become Zero Waste Certified by December 2026

Eight FGF facilities have achieved TRUE zero waste certification. Our team is now aggressively pursuing TRUE certification for the newly acquired manufacturing sites and target to have this completed by end of 2025.

Since 2022, we have diverted over 234 millions of pounds of waste away from landfill or incineration, Including:

  • Over 1.4 million pounds of label backtape
  • Over 265 thousand pounds of cooking oil
  • Over 23 million pounds of recycled wooden pallets
  • Industrial Recycling

    Large-scale recycling of things like cardboard, wooden pallets, and packaging waste.

  • Bakery Waste To Feed

    Directing organic bakery waste to safe animal feed production.

  • Digitization

    Going fully digital and phasing out paper-intense processes.

  • Product Packaging

    We are always searching for the most sustainable packaging for our products.

Goal #2

Our Impact

FGF Brands will reduce water consumption by 40% by 2030

Our state-of-the-art facilities already conserve thousands of gallons of water a year by using high-efficiency systems and fixtures, but we know we can do better.

  • Water-efficient Technology

    Making investments in new water-saving equipment such as automated hand-washing systems across all facilities.

  • Improved Sanitation Technologies

    Updating our sanitation tools to exceed current targets and reduce water consumption by up to 90%.

  • Enhanced Water Management Techniques

    Ensuring we implement the most water efficient management practices.

Goal #3

Our Impact

FGF Brands is taking steps to reduce our carbon emissions

We’re aggressively pursuing a suite of innovative carbon reduction projects, including energy recovery and renewable energy generation.

To date, we have avoided over 18,000 MT of carbon emissions by:

  • Replacing over 2,700 incandescent bulbs with energy efficient LED bulbs
  • Purchasing renewable energy from local wind farms to offset over 40,000 MWh of electricity
  • Optimizing our distribution models, leading to over 14 million trip kilometers saved per year

Leading the change

Our Impact

We’re Driving Change!

The sustainable actions and ideas you read here today were created by all of us at FGF Brands. We have a dedicated team of Environmental Sustainability professionals, who are supported by a network of sustainability advocates from across all areas of our organization. In addition to pushing for change within the organization, we encourage everyone to reduce their environmental impact and to look at sustainability not as a quick fix, but as a change in lifestyle and behavior. We are all Global Citizens and we believe it is our responsibility to do all that we can to reverse the effects of Climate Change. Together, we can do this. There is no Planet B.

Outside our operations and facilities, FGF Brands is also committed to reducing our environmental impact in areas up and down our supply chains. By the end of 2025, FGF Brands aims to have all palm oil and palm oil products sourced from deforestation and conversion-free (DCF) sources. Together with our palm oil and palm oil products suppliers, we will:

  • Follow all relevant laws and regulations to ensure no illegal harvesting or violations of human rights;
  • Protect forests and natural ecosystems, especially High Conservation Value (“HCV”) and High Carbon Stock (“HCS”) areas;
  • Do not develop on peatlands, regardless of depth;
  • Encourage agroforestry and other regenerative practices, wherever possible;
  • Respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (“IPLCs”), including Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (“FPIC”), where appropriate.

FGF Brands has also committed to improving our product packaging by signing onto the Canada Plastics Pact which aligns with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Global Commitment on Plastics. We have committed to reducing our plastic packaging where possible, and ensuring whatever plastic we can’t reduce is redesigned to be recycle-ready. This includes removing problematic materials and making our packaging easier to recycle for waste sorters.
